In the mid-1920s, the Seattle-Tacoma Land Company planned Normandy Park as a neighborhood with homes built in the French Normandy style. By 1929, the area had dirt roads, a water system that got its water from deep wells, and was fully developed. But then the Great Depression happened, which stopped all work on the project and left it unfinished.
Normandy Park didn't become a bustling neighborhood until the late 1940s and early 1950s, when building started up again. The people who lived there saw the beauty and promise of the place, which is why Normandy Park became a city on June 8, 1953. This organization made it possible for local government, which gave the people who lived there a feeling of community and pride.
These days, Normandy Park is a symbol of strength and hope. Normandy Park has a long past that is woven into the community. It shows how historical charm and modern life can coexist.
The city government consists of seven elected council members, including the mayor, who collaboratively manage the affairs of Normandy Park at the city hall. These elected council members serve on various committees, ensuring that every aspect of the city’s needs is addressed efficiently. Key committees include the Communications Committee, City Manager Committee, and Community Experience and Engagement Committee.
Council members serve terms that expire on December 31, 2025, and their responsibilities range from local governance to participation in regional committees like the Southside Alliance and Puget Sound Regional Council. This structure ensures that Normandy Park remains a well-managed and vibrant community.
